Pet Portrait: Lucy the Havanese

Hav-a-nese? Not only do I have one, but thanks to this drawing of Lucy, I now have two havanese portraits under my belt! (No I will not apologize for that joke. It was golden, and I refuse to see otherwise.)

Original Photo: In addition to lightening the original image, I rotated Lucy slightly to the left for the portrait so she would line up a little better with the horizontal plane.

Paper Used: Strathmore Drawing Paper (400 Series) cut to 5x7"

Progress Pics:

Time-Lapse Video: I decided against making a time-lapse video for this portrait because the old iPhone I use would have to be so close to the paper for a portrait this small, impeding my vision of the drawing. That and I didn’t think white on white would pick up that well. As much as I appreciate that the iPhone has a time-lapse setting with its camera, I think I really need to start looking into a different setup. Even if that means taking video on my old digital camera. The bad thing about that is I’d probably have to buy a few more batteries for it so I can draw for longer periods of time than one battery would allow in one sitting, and straight video would also take up so much storage space until it’s edited down, but the huge upside would be that it has a zoom. That would be so helpful!

Time Spent: 19 hours and 46 minutes

Up Next: With Spring Training games just starting I might do some Cardinals’ portraits to prepare for the 2019 baseball season. Especially now that we have Jose Martinez signed for two more years. The last two portraits I did were of players that ended up going to other teams soon after, and I would appreciate not repeating that if possible.

Until next time! Lauren H.
