Paws For A Cause: Heparin the Pit Bull Mix
Today I found out that Heparin is a type of anticoagulant. I never thought of naming a dog after a prescription drug, but if there's one thing you can say about Stray Rescue of St. Louis (OK, there is a whole lot that can be said about this amazing animal rescue group), it is that they sure come up with original names for the animals in their care.
Reason for Portrait: A few weeks back I was asked my a member of a group called No Kill Columbia if I would be willing to donate a drawing to their fundraising event, Art Unleashed. The goal of this event is to raise money to put towards building a new, low cost spay/neuter clinic. I might be in a over my head considering my mom likes to keep me updated on others who will be contributing, such as the little known Bob Barker from the short lived show, The Price is Right... Basically if I make 10 bucks for the organization I will not be at all disappointed considering most money will probably be thrown at items from people like, oh I don't know, Katherine Heigl.
Thanks To: The reason I mentioned Stray Rescue of St. Louis in the intro is that Heparin is one of the many dogs that have been rescued by Randy Grim and his helpers at Stray Rescue. This pit bull is actually still available for adoption (as of the date this was posted, anyway) if you're looking for another member to add to your family, just FYI, so click here to read more about her. Look at that face! You know you want to click the link.
Anyway, I need to thank Stray Rescue for allowing me to use the picture of Heparin off of their website to base this portrait on. I wanted to go with Stray Rescue because the work they do is a prime example of the importance of spaying and neutering animals as they spend so much time on the streets rescuing strays, often with litters of puppies of their own, so I was definitely happy when they gave me the go ahead. There were plenty of other adorable options to choose from before Heparin's smiling face eventually won me over, so seriously consider them the next time you are looking to adopt.
