Pet Portrait: Hugo the Basset Hound
As much as I love beagles, and I LOVE beagles, it's nice to finally get to draw a different breed of hound dog. "But Lauren, Basset Hounds and Beagles are very similar looking." Shh! Baby steps!
Original Photo: Bet you would've never guessed from that face that Hugo is a cold blooded killer. A cold blood(hound)ed killer, if you may. But there was a reason I cut off the lower part of his body.
Just kidding! At least I hope. I'm sure he's just super affectionate and invasive of personal space, in a "where you go, Hu-go," sort of way. You're welcome to this catchphrase, Hugo's parents.
Paper Used: Strathmore Recycled Drawing Paper (400 Series) cut to 8x10"
Prismacolor Colored Pencils Used:
Progress Pics:
Time-Lapse Video: I used the time-lapse feature on the iPhone, and then sped that up an additional 4x in iMovie.
Time Spent: 19 hours and 46 minutes
Up Next: Decisions, decisions... Either I draw a St. Louis Cardinal portrait next to appease the ladies at my grandma's assisted living center (so many players got traded this offseason that I went from having reference photos for 8 or so players to 2 players still with the team), or I will have to go to Instagram to find a new dog breed to add to my portfolio. Dalmatian, Husky, Blue and Red Heeler, Vizsla, Weimaraner, Bulldog, Doberman, Pug, Jack Russell Terrier, Bluetick Coonhound, Bloodhound, Greyhound... I better stop listing breeds before I completely overwhelm myself.
That said, if anyone is hoping to get a commissioned portrait from me, now's the time!
Until next time! Lauren H.
