Portrait of Grandpa Ken in Navy Dress

I know, that is the best post title ever.  You're welcome. When looking through old family photos there is always a strong risk of coming across some rather creepy photos.  What can I say, it's just the time period, and what seems to be the inability of many individuals to smile for the camera in an "I will haunt you from the moment you look at this photo on" sort of way.  With that said, there has always been something rather dignified about older military dress portraits.  I may be biased, but this portrait of my Grandfather in his Navy Dress has always been a favorite of mine, and I thought recreating it would make the perfect gift for my dad.  Originally the plan was to recreate this for his birthday, but I was busy...  So why not make it the perfect gift for Father's Day!?  But I was still busy... Better late than never?

Basics:  I used a graphite lead holder with HB lead to color out this black and white portrait, on 400 Series Flannel White Strathmore Artist Paper cut down to 8x10".
